Overview

Basic Function: Performs work related to construction, maintenance and repairs of railroad tracks and relative components and / or structures.       

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

 

  1. Perform all aspects of job safely.
  2. Load materials at beginning of shift as needed.
  3. Assist in disassembly of track and related components.
  4. Distribute materials at project site.
  5. Assist in assembly of track and related components.
  6. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  7. Assist in maintaining cleanliness of vehicles.
  8. Drives tractor-trailer to/from job sites, inspects loads and machinery being transported. Verifies specialty permits (overweight and oversize).
  9. Adheres to D.O.T. regulations (including pre/post trip inspections and log books).
  10. Assist in assembly and disassembly of equipment and related components.
  11. Operates equipment (cranes, backhoes, excavators, etc.) in order to accomplish tasks of re-railing overturned railroad cars, grading or other preparation for railroad construction and related activities.
  12. Sort scrap materials and ensure they are placed in perspective designated locations.
  13. Perform any and all duties which ensure the safe, smooth and efficient functioning of the department.
  14. Remain flexible and ready to perform work for other departments/divisions as may be required to meet business needs and customer expectations.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience:

 

  1. Capable of understanding and following directions.
  2. Display strong adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  3. Able to read, write and speak English
  4. Must pass qualification tests as required. 

Physical Demands:

 

  1. Constantly on feet
  2. Walking / carrying loads on uneven surfaces and in ballast.
  3. Working in ALL weather conditions.
  4. Working extended hours.
  5. Constant bending, twisting, stooping, standing and / or walking.
  6. Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds; loads in excess of 50 pounds and which can be reduced, should be made lighter.
  7. Employee must obtain assistance when lifting items weighing more than 75 pounds, or items which present ergonomic challenges in lifting/movement/placement. 

Required Certifications and Licenses:

 

  1. Valid Driver’s License (CLASS A CDL)
  2. E-Rail Safe
  3. Ability to obtain CSX On Track Safety Certification
  4. Other certifications will be obtained as required.
