Overview

Basic Function:

 

As directed by either the Division Manager, Assistant Division Manager, or Department Supervisor assists in leading work crews in performance of daily work. Assumes responsibility for work crew in supervisor’s absence.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

 

Responsible for leading a work crew for service delivery in response to emergency derailments. Leads by example in order to participate and assist work crew performing the following functions in a safe manner:

 

  1. Ensures that work crew is prepared to carry out assignment(s). Ensures that needed equipment is pre-tripped and that required materials are loaded in preparation of job.
  2. Conducts job briefing and reinforces commitment to safety through identification of potential areas of concern.
  3. Distributes work assignments, materials and/or equipment at project site.
  4. Actively participates in work required for project completion, directing assignments and equipment operation and use of manual labor as maybe required for accomplishment of project.
  5. Ensures that work crew maintains a clean and organized work area.
  6. Ensures that work crew maintains cleanliness of vehicles.
  7. Accurately re-stocking materials/equipment as directed at the end of work assignment/project. Ensures that post-trip inspections are completed. Ensures that trucks/equipment/materials/supplies are reloaded post-trip in preparation for next assignment.
  8. Follows Cranemasters policies, procedures and work processes. Ensures that assigned crew members understand and adhere to policies/procedures/processes.
  9. As required, timely submits hours of work, fuel receipts and other receipts in order that customer billing is accurate.       Ensures that crew members submit receipts as required.
  10. Performing any and all duties which ensure the safe, smooth and efficient functioning of the department.
  11. Completes safety observations; submits same on timely basis.
  12. Ensures that any required paperwork is completed accurately and submitted on a timely basis.
  13. Proactively communicates with Division Manager/Designed Supervisor and/or Dispatch as required.
  14. Responsible handling of credit card purchases and all related documentation for billing purposes. All purchases over $500 must have prior approval.

 

Required Travel:  Yes; up to 75%

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience:

 

  1. Capable of understanding and following directions.
  2. Display strong understanding of and adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  3. Basic leadership skills.
  4. Must have minimum of CDL-B license, prefer CDL-A.
  5. Possesses technical skills in operation of multiple pieces of equipment including cranes, trucks, trailers, backhoes, excavators, etc.
  6. Must be capable of conducting job briefings including completion of appropriate paperwork.
  7. Must be capable of completing project reports and associated paperwork accurately and efficiently.
  8. Must project professional image to customers, co-workers and general public.
  9. Able to read, write and speak English.
  10. Must pass qualification tests as required. 

Physical Demands:

 

  1. Constant bending / twisting / stooping / walking / talking / sitting / standing / kneeling / climbing / bending / carrying materials/parts
  2. May work in a variety weather conditions.
  3. Working extended hours.
  4. Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds; loads in excess of 50 pounds and which can be reduced, should be made lighter.
  5. Employee must obtain assistance when lifting items weighing more than 75 pounds, or items which present ergonomic challenges in lifting/movement/placement. 

Required Certifications and Licenses:

 

  1. Valid CDL-B Driver’s.
  2. Ability to obtain E-Rail Safe.
  3. CSX On-Track Safety.
  4. Other certifications will be obtained as required.

 

Note:   Cranemasters is a 24/7 emergency service provider to the railroad industry and as such this position is subject to call-in/call-back on a 24/7 basis. In addition, this position requires that employees will work outside of their normal work hours including nights, weekends and/or holidays.
