Basic Function:      


Responsible for cleanliness and appearance of company owned vehicles and equipment. Leads other Wash Bay employees by ensuring that they carry out assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner.


Essential Functions:


  1. Carries out work assignments following daily briefing with Shop Manager.
  2. Participates in activities with other employees that may be temporarily assigned to the wash bay to ensure that they are carrying out assigned duties and tasks.
  3. Leads by example ensuring that vehicles are cleaned inside and out meeting established expectations/specifications for appearance/image.
  4. Responsible for assisting with of facility cleanliness (locker rooms, trash receptacles, lunch room, etc.) tasks.
  5. Responds to questions and provides assistance and direction to others in the wash bay.
  6. Ensures that down-time is kept to a minimum for self and other wash bay employees.
  7. Completes work orders timely and accurately. Records task accomplishment through check lists and inspections of vehicles following wash/clean operations. Ensures that documentation is legible and understandable.
  8. May assist in parts/mail pick-up and delivery. Verifies packing slips to ensure correct parts are received and that items/counts are accurate. Routes paperwork as required to accounting/administration departments.
  9. Routes requests for emergency repairs to the Shop Foreman to ensure priority assignments are not interrupted.
  10. Ensure that all safety rules/regulations are followed by self and other employees in the wash bay.
  11. Routes overtime requests to Shop Foreman before proceeding with authorization.
  12. Ensures that all Wash Bay areas, tools and other equipment are maintained in a neat, orderly fashion.
  13. Delivers work assignments so as to ensure that excellent customer service is delivered to both internal and external customers.
  14. Other duties as assigned.


Required Travel: Minimal. May be required for work related travel to/from other Cranemasters locations.


Required Skills and Experience:


  1. Minimum of one-year experience in execution of Wash Bay and Shop assignments/related tasks.
  2. Demonstrated ability to meet expectations for attention and achievement of work assignments; commitment to completion of task and follow-up responsibilities.
  3. Education to include: High School Diploma/GED.
  4. Drive for achieving results and ability to convey a sense of urgency when appropriate.
  5. Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  6. Strong communication and organization skills.
  7. Proficient computer skills.
  8. Able to read, write and speak English


Physical Demands:


  1. Constant bending / twisting / stooping / walking / talking / sitting / standing / kneeling / climbing / bending / carrying materials/parts
  2. May work in a variety weather conditions.
  3. Working extended hours and weekends
  4. Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds; loads in excess of 50 pounds and which can be reduced, should be made lighter.
  5. Employee must obtain assistance when lifting items weighing more than 75 pounds, or items which present ergonomic challenges in lifting/movement/placement.




Cranemasters is a 24/7 emergency service provider to the railroad industry and as such, the Wash Bay Attendant will be subject to work outside of normal working hours including nights, weekends and/or holidays.


Required Certifications and Licenses: 


  1. Valid Driver’s License with good driving record
  2. Other certifications as may be necessary for accomplishment of assigned responsibilities.
