Overview

Basic Function:        

 

Assists in construction, maintenance and repairs of railroad tracks and relative components and / or structures. Operates equipment (tamper, dozers, backhoes, etc.) as required in order to accomplish work safely, efficiently and while meeting the quality standards/expectations.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

 

  1. Perform all aspects of job safely.
  2. Loads materials at beginning of shift as needed.
  3. Loads/un-loads equipment as required for safe transportation to/from work site.
  4. Distribute materials and/or equipment at project site.
  5. Operates tamper in order to meet railroad specifications in raising, leveling and aligning railroad track. Requires significant ability to operate tamper in order to perform work with precision.
  6. Regulates ballast for surfacing operations.
  7. Operates dozers, back-hoes and other heavy equipment in safe and efficient manner. Performs work so as to meet job specifications and quality standards.
  8. Assists in assembly and disassembly of track and related components as directed for each job.
  9. Drives machines onto truck trailers and drives truck to transport to/from job sites.
  10. Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  11. Assists in maintaining cleanliness of vehicles.
  12. Accurately re-stock materials in equipment trucks/track vans as directed.
  13. Sorts scrap materials and ensures that they are placed in designated locations.
  14. Perform any and all duties which ensure the safe, smooth and efficient functioning of the department.
  15. Uses tools proficiently and safely in order to accomplish assigned work. Ensures that tools are well maintained reporting any problems to supervisor/team leader.
  16. Remain flexible and ready to perform work for other departments/divisions as may be required to meet business needs and customer expectations.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience:

 

  1. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in operating heavy equipment in a construction environment.
  2. Experienced in use of hand-tools, power tools and hydraulic equipment.
  3. Willingness to learn and be trained in the operation of specific equipment.
  4. Capable of understanding and following directions.
  5. Display strong adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  6. Able to read, write and speak English
  7. Must pass qualification tests as required.

Note: Cranemasters is a 24/7 emergency service provider to the railroad industry and as such this position is subject to call-in/call-back on a 24/7 basis. In addition, this position requires that employees will work outside of their normal work hours including nights, weekends and/or holidays.

 

Physical Demands:

 

  1. Constant bending / twisting / stooping / walking / talking / sitting / standing / kneeling / climbing / bending / carrying materials/parts
  2. May work in a variety weather conditions.
  3. Working extended hours.
  4. Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds; loads in excess of 50 pounds and which can be reduced, should be made lighter.
  5. Employee must obtain assistance when lifting items weighing more than 75 pounds, or items which present ergonomic challenges in lifting/movement/placement.

 

Required Certifications and Licenses:

 

  1. Valid Driver’s License (CLASS A CDL)
  2. E-Rail Safe
  3. Ability to obtain CSX On Track Safety Certification
  4. Other certifications will be obtained as required.
