  • Overview

    Basic Function:                

     

    Responsible for leading Cranemasters human resources functions, programs, and staff. Responsible for ensuring that Cranemasters is resourced to effectively meet current and future workforce demands, provides “best in class” benefits programs, ensures continuous improvement in HRIS systems and focuses on talent development to build and sustain a high performance and positive culture.

     

    Acts as a key advisor to the Leadership team, works collaboratively with all departments and demonstrates commitment to safety, professionalism, and fair and consistent application of all policies.

     

    Ensures that all activities are carried out in a safe, effective, professional, and efficient manner so as to protect employees and the assets of the Company.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Functions:

     

    1. Ability to see the “big picture” aligning human resources functions in order to implement strategic initiatives and execute business plans.
    2. Responsible for all human resources functions including: recruitment, retention, employee relations, data/records management, training & development, performance management, recognition, policy, and benefits.
    3. Ensures that Cranemasters personnel practices are consistent/fair and in compliance with all laws/rules/regulations.
    4. Supervises HR staff in performance of assigned work.  Holds staff accountable for job performance and service delivery.  Conducts annual performance review for staff and participates in goal setting for the department.
    5. Develops/maintains a team-based work environment through pro-active communications, participation in meetings and development of collaborative relationships.
    6. Responsible for ensuring compliance with state/federal/local regulations/laws including: FMLA, COBRA, ADA, EEO, I-9’s, E-Verify, E-Rail, 5500’s, etc.
    7. Collaborates with managers/supervisors to provide opportunities for professional development of all levels of personnel.  Identifies appropriate training/educational programs and coordinates activities/details required to ensure attendance and completion of same.
    8. Handles employee relations issues in accordance with best practices. Conducts investigations and makes recommendations as warranted.
    9. Coaches and counsels’ employees, supervisors and managers following Cranemasters Values while incorporating the company’s culture, expectations, and behaviors consistent with performance requirements.
    10. Directs research of current theories, best practices and/or trends in human resources administration in order to enhance the performance and productivity of the HR department. 
    11. Keeps abreast of current principles and practices of effective human resources management including information technology, employee relations, compensation and benefits, and employee development.
    12. Updates/maintains Employee Handbook as required.  Publishes and/or communicates changes to employees at all locations.
    13. Responsible for execution of random drug testing program in conjunction with vendors.
    14. Exemplifies customer service skills to both internal and external customers.
    15. Other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications

    Required Skills and Experience:

     

    1. Bachelors’ Degree and minimum of ten years human resources generalist experience with preference for prior experience in construction or field based industries.  Equivalent education and experience will be considered.
    2. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    3. Drive for achieving results and ability to convey a sense of urgency when appropriate.
    4. Strong team-building, organization, and administration skills with detail orientation to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and maintain detailed accurate records.
    5. Highly proficient computer skills.
    6. Ability to demonstrate alignment with company culture and values.
    7. Strong and proactive communication skills.
    8. Experience managing multiple projects/jobs and working directly with clients/prospects.
    9. Excellent time and project management skills.
    10. Ability to manage all aspects of budget, and fiscal responsibilities associated with the Human Resources Department.
    11. Competent in conflict and crisis management.
    12. Ability to analyze situations, identify problems, exercise good judgement, and utilize creativity in problem solving.
    13. Thought leader able to drive team development and motivate others to strive for success and excellence.
    14. Team player with ability to participate in planning processes and work with others to meet goals and objectives.
    15. Must project positive and professional image to customers, co-workers, and general public.
    16. Must possess a valid drivers’ license with good driving record; must reflect a total accumulation of no more than five negative points within the past three years, or a major violation within the past three years.
    17. Able to read, write and speak English.
    18. Must pass qualification tests as required (includes: ERail Safe and other training/safety programs).

     

     

     

    Physical Demands:

     

    1. This position requires significant work at a desk, but also requires walking, talking, standing as needed to meet with employees, travel to various work sites, conduct meetings, etc.
    2. Requires lifting up to 20 pounds (files/uniforms/etc.) and bending (most frequently related to filing).
    3. Works extended hours as work load dictates.
    4. Ability to work well while under considerable stress/pressure.
