  • Overview

    Responsible for assisting mechanics in accomplishment of rebuilds, maintenance and repair of both Cranemasters and customers, cranes, vehicles and heavy equipment. 


    Essential Functions:


    1. Assists Mechanics in accomplishment of repairs and/or maintenance of both customers and company-owned cranes, vehicles, trucks and heavy equipment.
    2. As instructed carries out repairs and/or maintenance tasks.
    3. As instructed uses hand/power tools to carry out work assignments.
    4. As instructed performs wiring and rewiring of assemblies for mobile equipment including work lights, wiring harnesses and sensors.
    5. Ensures that down-time is kept to an absolute minimum by seeking out work, offering assistant to co-workers and cleaning/prepping parts/tools/equipment.
    6. Maintains and cleans hand tools and power tools.  Upon completion of assigned task returns tools to proper location in order that they are available for use by other Shop employees.
    7. As instructed removes and dissembles components and preps for reassembly. Applies protective materials to equipment, components, and parts to prevent defects and corrosion. Cleans parts and lubricates components as necessary prior to reinstallation. 
    8. As instructed transfers equipment, tools, parts, and other objects to and from work stations and other areas. 
    9. Uses hand tools and power tools as instructed ensuring that work is accomplished in a safe, effective and efficient manner.
    10. As instructed positions vehicles, machinery, equipment, physical structures, and other objects, for assembly or installation, using hand tools, power tools, and moving equipment.
    11. Ensures that shop and all work areas are clean and free of debris.
    12. Ensures that all safety rules/regulations are followed.
    13. Ensures that tools and other equipment are maintained in a neat, orderly fashion.
    14. Actively participates in team based work assignments in order to ensure timely completion of repairs/maintenance.
    15. Adheres to Cranemasters policies, procedures and practices.
    16. Other duties as assigned.


    Required Skills and Experience:


    1. Minimum of two years technical training in related field.  Prefer one year of prior work experience in mechanical/equipment repair shop at helper level.  (Related fields of study include but not limited to: hydraulics, electronics, small engines, air-conditioning, and other related mechanical areas).
    2. Education to include: High School Diploma/GED AND trade school/or dealership/factory service training in diesel mechanical repair/maintenance that would be equivalent to an associate’s degree. 
      1. Equivalent combination of items 1 and 2 above will be considered in determination of suitability for position.
    3. Drive for achieving results and ability to convey a sense of urgency when appropriate.
    4. Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
    5. Strong communication and organization skills.
    6. Proficient computer skills.
    7. Able to read, write and speak English


    Physical Demands:


    1. Constantly on feet
    2. Walking / carrying loads on uneven surfaces and in ballast.
    3. Working in ALL weather conditions.
    4. Working extended hours.
    5. Constant bending, twisting, stooping, standing and / or walking.
    6. Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds; loads in excess of 50 pounds and which can be reduced, should be made lighter.
    7. Employee must obtain assistance when lifting items weighing more than 75 pounds, or items which present ergonomic challenges in lifting/movement/placement.




    • Cranemasters is a 24/7 emergency service provider to the railroad industry and as such employees are subject to work outside of normal working hours including nights, weekends and/or holidays.


    Required Certifications and Licenses:


    1. Valid Driver’s License with good driving record
    2. Other certifications as may be necessary for accomplishment of assigned responsibilities.
