    Responsible for leading a work crew for service delivery in response to derailments, car repair, load adjust/transfer and track maintenance/repair and new build assignments.  Leads by example, participates in, and assists work crew in performance of assigned work.  Ensures that all activities are carried out in a safe, effective, professional, and efficient manner so as to protect employees and the assets of the Company.



    • Responsible for in-field leadership of work crew in carrying out daily assignment(s).
    • Prepares crew for the days’ work/project through coordination/organization/readiness of materials, vehicles, tools, equipment, and PPE.
    • Verifies that each crew member has performed pre-trip inspections, walk-arounds, and that other daily procedures have been adhered to.
    • In absence of a Supervisor conducts daily job briefing and reinforces commitment to safety through identification of potential areas of concern.
    • Distributes work assignments, and participates in staging of materials and/or equipment at project site.
    • Actively participates in work required for project completion including equipment operation, manual labor, rigging, attaching winch lines, trenching, etc.
    • Assigns mentor to any newly hired employee(s) to ensure that new employees learn through demonstration of and participation in performance of work utilizing established processes/procedures while following safety rules/regulations.
    • Assigns tasks and coordinates re-stocking of materials/equipment at the end of work assignment/project. Ensures that post-trip inspections/walk-arounds are completed. 
    • Ensures that any required paperwork is completed accurately and submitted on a timely basis.
    • Proactively communicates with Supervisor as required.
    • Other duties as assigned.



    • Two years’ experience in railroad industry including knowledge of D.O.T., FRA regulations, and Cranemasters safety policies and procedures.
    • Must possess a valid drivers’ license with preference for possession of Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
    • Basic Computer skills (including knowledge of MS Office programs).
    • Good communication skills as necessary to coach/counsel/provide feedback to employees, conduct job briefings and communicate as necessary to improve and enhance the culture of the organization.
    • Positive attitude and demonstrated professionalism and commitment to work crew, co-workers, and customers.
    • Leadership abilities and willingness to acquire additional knowledge and skill for personal and professional development.
    • Possesses technical skills in operation of multiple pieces of equipment including cranes, trucks, trailers, backhoes, excavators, rail-bound equipment, etc. and be able to train others in their operation.
    • Demonstrated ability to read and understand crane load charts. Demonstrated knowledge of capabilities and uses of various types of rigging and general understanding of freight car components.
    • Must pass qualification tests as required (includes: ERail Safe and other training/safety programs).
    • Must meet 24/7 availability to respond to emergency calls for service including weekends and holidays.



    • Constantly on feet.
    • Walking / carrying loads on uneven surfaces and in ballast.
    • Working in ALL weather conditions.
    • Working extended hours.
    • Constant bending, twisting, stooping, standing, and / or walking.
    • Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds; loads in excess of 50 pounds and which can be reduced, should be made lighter.

    NOTE:  Cranemasters is a 24/7 emergency service provider to the railroad industry and as such, our employees are subject to work outside of normal working hours including nights, weekends and/or holidays.
