  • Overview



    Responsible for the implementation of safety plans, delivering training, and coordinating programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses: Identifies and assesses conditions which could create accidents and/or financial losses at the Richmond and other southern region divisions; assisting with other divisions, as needed.




    1. Implement accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into policies and procedures of Cranemasters.
    2. Conducts or coordinates training to educate workers about safety rules, policies, and procedures.
    3. Confers with department managers and supervisors concerning such problems as accidents, incidents, and near misses; recommends measures to improve safety records and to maintain the health and safety of the employees and prevent damage to vehicles, equipment, and property.
    4. Liaison with customer’s safety departments to assure compliance of their policies and procedures.
    5. Investigates and manages injuries or property damage resulting from accidents.
    6. Devises methods to evaluate safety programs and conducts or directs evaluations.
      • Perform formal safety observations and audits
      • Ensure that Managers and Supervisor are involved in safety observations, audits, and other methods to support/improve safety.
    7. Compiles, analyzes, and interprets data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents and prepares reports for information of personnel concerned.
    8. Respond to high profile jobs and conduct site safety and develop/implement health and safety plan.
    9. Evaluates technical and scientific publications concerned with safety management and participates in activities of related professional organizations to update knowledge of safety program developments.
    10. Attends training, seminars, and meetings on safety.
    11. Assists department managers and supervisors to ensure safety rules, policies, and procedures are being followed. 

    REQUIRED TRAVEL: 50% for work related travel to/from job sites, other Cranemasters locations, training, seminars and meetings.



    1. Knowledge of principles and practices in evaluating and implementing a comprehensive safety program, training techniques, basic principles of risk management, and techniques of accident prevention.
    2. Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations (i.e. OSHA, MSHA, FRA, DOT) applicable to employee safety and occupational health. Ability to interpret safety and environmental laws and regulations.
    3. Ability to investigate and evaluate complex safety problems and issues; learn relevant aspects of involved industries and operations.
    4. Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
    5. Intermediate level of knowledge and experience in the use of computer software including Excel, Project Management and similar programs/software Gather, organize, and analyze data and complete comprehensive reports.
    6. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with people at all levels of the organization.
    7. Analyze situations accurately and make timely and effective recommendations.
    8. Plan and present safety training programs.
    9. Presents a strong, professional, positive image to others which inspires confidence and persuasion to obtain compliance and cooperation from all whom are employed at Cranemasters. 


    1. Walking / talking / sitting / standing / kneeling / climbing / stooping / bending / lifting / carrying materials/parts as needed to oversee and assist in delivery of services.
    2. Working extended hours on a regular basis. Work days can range from 8 to 18 hours or longer depending upon calls for emergency re-railing services; work often occurs in inclement weather and difficult environmental circumstances.
    3. Ability to work well and manage activities of others while under considerable stress/pressure. 


    1. Valid Driver’s License with good driving record
    2. Other certifications as may be necessary for accomplishment of assigned responsibilities.
